Barnet has marked Holocaust Memorial Day with a service held at Middlesex University.

Around 300 people attended the annual event which took place at Middlesex University’s campus in the The Burroughs, Hendon, on Sunday 17 January.

The theme of this year’s memorial day was ‘Don’t Stand By’. The theme asks us to consider our individual responsibilities not to be bystanders to hate crime and prejudice, or to international threats of genocide.

Speakers this year included the Chief Executive of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, Olivia Marks-Woldman, Joshua Castellino, Professor of Law and Dean of the School of Law at Middlesex University, and students from JCoSS.

London Cantorial Singers and Alyth Youth Choir both performed, and music was provided by the Barnet Wind Band.

The Mayor said: “This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day service was once again a very poignant and thought provoking commemoration.

“It was moving to see so many people united in remembering all those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and in other genocides.”
