Bin collection update - 9 January
- Rubbish, waste and recycling
The Leader of Barnet Council has responded to the issues experienced by residents with recycling and waste collections over the Christmas and New Year period.
The Leader of Barnet Council, Councillor Richard Cornelius, said: “Our number one priority is to ensure that we start the new year with a high-quality recycling and waste collection service. Our residents deserve nothing less.
“I would like to apologise to those residents who have experienced problems with collections over the festive period. I fully accept that the new service has encountered a number of problems since it was introduced, and we have been working hard to resolve these local issues.
“I believe we are now starting to move in the right direction. All but a small number of Monday's collections were completed yesterday, with the outstanding collections being finished on Tuesday morning. Tuesday’s collections have largely been competed as scheduled. Our focus this week is about building on that positive momentum, ensuring we do everything we can to collect residents’ recycling and waste on the allocated days. We have deployed additional staff to help us to do this.
“Finally, I would like to say thank you to the street scene staff who have worked tirelessly over the Christmas period by putting in extra hours and going the extra mile. I am extremely grateful for their efforts in working around the clock for our residents.”
Residents can check their correct collection day using the calendar sent to households in October 2018, or by using the bin collection date checker.
Barnet Council will be collecting real Christmas trees between 6 January and 3 February 2019 if they are left out by residents' bins on their correct collection day.
