Christmas waste and recycling collection dates
- Rubbish, waste and recycling
Over the Christmas period there will be some changes to Barnet Council’s recycling, food waste and refuse collection schedule.
Residents who are scheduled to have their blue, brown and black bins collected on Monday 26 December (Boxing Day) will have their bins collected two days earlier on Saturday 24 December. Other collection days will not be affected.
Garden waste collections will pause during the Christmas period. The last garden waste collection will be on Friday 23 December 2016 and collections will resume from Saturday 7 January 2017 onwards.
Chairman of Barnet Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Dean Cohen, added: “As our residents might expect, our waste collection schedule will need to be re-adjusted over the festive period. We’d ask residents to bear with us whilst the waste and recycling teams carry out revised collections over the holiday period.”
Residents are encouraged to try and reduce their waste by avoiding buying items with excessive packaging, planning food carefully and recycling. Food items, including turkey bones and sprouts, can be placed in brown food waste bins. Other items such as cans, bottles, jars and wrapping paper made of paper (not plastic or foil wrapping paper) can be placed in blue bins.
Summers Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre, N12 0RF is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sundays and Bank Holidays 9am to 4pm. The site is closed on 25 December, 26 December and 1 January. The site accepts items for reuse, recycling and general waste.
