Update - East Finchley Fire

All residents affected by the fire have been provided with suitable accomodation. The rest centre is now closed.
The council and Barnet Homes are continuing to work with residents impacted by the fire.In the event of an emergency, residents should contact 0800 389 5225.
Update – Wednesday, 7 November, 2.30pm
Barnet Council is currently working with the emergency services and assisting residents affected by this morning’s fire in Willow House, East Finchley.
Approximately 60 residents were evacuated from their homes following the fire. The Metropolitan Police Service confirmed there were no reported injuries. The police also reported that no people were found inside the building.
Residents that live in one of the two blocks affected have now returned to their homes. Residents who live in the other block have been advised that they will be unable to return to their properties for the time being. Suitable alternative accommodation is being provided for all residents affected, whilst the rest centre will remain open.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated and will be confirmed at a later stage by the London Fire Brigade. Barnet Homes and the Council are continuing to assist those residents affected by the fire. There has also been a fantastic response from local volunteers and St Barnabas North London.
The Leader of Barnet Council, Councillor Richard Cornelius, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts go out to the residents affected by the fire in Willow House during the early hours of this morning. It is just such a relief that no one was injured. We can be thankful for that.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to the emergency services and council officers for acting so quickly and professionally. The heart-warming response from the community is something to be proud of, so my thanks also extend to them. “We will continue to work to support residents to get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”
The council is working with Barnet Homes to currently assess the individual needs of the residents impacted by the fire and will be working with the voluntary and community sector, should extra support be required.

London Fire Brigade are currently (Wednesday, 7 November, 6am) on the scene of a fire at Grange Estate in East Finchley.
London Fire Brigade were called to Willow House just after midnight. Officers from Barnet Council and Barnet Homes are assisting the emergency services at the scene. Approximately 60 people have evacuated the building.
The Metropolitan Police Service have confirmed no reported injuries. They also confirmed no people were found inside the building.
Barnet Homes and the council will be working to assist those residents affected by this morning’s fire. Local volunteers and Helen Shannon, an Associate Minister at St Barnabas North London, are also providing essential support to residents.
