Winter Weather updates
UPDATE - THURSDAY 14 DECEMBER
Waste and Recycling Collections
Our recycling and waste collection crews have been carrying out scheduled collections and revisiting streets where bins were uncollected due to the adverse weather this week. It is anticipated that all uncollected bins will be emptied by close of business on Friday 15 December.
If your bins have not yet been emptied, please continue to leave them out for collection and we will return to carry out collections as soon as possible. You do not need to report a non-collection.
UPDATE - TUESDAY 12 DECEMBER
Gritting operations have continued through the night as temperatures fell to minus five. We’ll be out gritting this afternoon at 2.30pm. For more information, visit our winter gritting pages.
As well as our priority one routes, we have also treated our priority two routes and will continue to do this.
We have continued treating footways and dealing with ice formation in important areas such as town centres, schools and transport interchanges. We are currently focusing maximum effort on footways and have just mobilised an additional crew of eight operatives to perform hand gritting duties.
We are responding to requests for treatments in specific locations and have diverted gritters and footway gritting teams to treat vulnerable schools sites.
Street scene staff have been refilling grit bins and will continue to do so to enable grit spreading as required.
We are aware that tree damage has occurred and have had a crew mobilised since Sunday that has dealt with three damaged trees so far. If you become aware of a damaged tree, please report this on Tel: 020 8359 2000.
Recycling and Waste Collections (updated 10.38am)
Our recycling and waste collection crews are carrying out bin collections today and, where conditions allow, revisiting roads and emptying bins that were uncollected yesterday, where it is safe to do so.
If your bins have not been emptied, please continue to leave them out for collection and we will return to carry out collections as soon as possible. You do not need to report a non-collection.

UPDATE - MONDAY 11 DECEMBER
Gritting on roads and pavements (updated at 2.13pm)
However, the midday weather forecast has indicated that very cold temperatures are expected overnight.
We are preparing for this freeze with two treatments of grit salt. These treatments have been scheduled for the 10 priority routes in order to prevent ice formation as much as possible. The first of these treatments will commence at 2.30pm. For more information, visit our winter gritting pages.
Our footways are also being pre-treated with a focus on transport hubs and town centre locations.
Recycling and Waste Collections (updated 4.14pm)
If your collection day is a Tuesday, please leave your waste and recycling bins out as normal.
Our recycling and waste collection crews were carrying out collections on Monday, however some disruptions were experienced and as a result, a number of roads could not be accessed safely by our refuse and recycling collection crews.
Please leave your bins out for collection and we will return to carry out collections as soon as possible. You do not need to report a non-collection. For updates, please visit this page and follow us on Twitter @barnetcouncil.
Special collections of large and bulky waste items (updated 2.36pm)
