Key strategic documents and plans
North Central London NHS: Sustainability and Transformation Plan
The NHS in the north central London area – which represents Camden, Haringey, Islington, Barnet and Enfield – has submitted a draft Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) to NHS England. This has been developed by a host of NHS organisations with the support of officials from the area’s local authorities to propose changes to the way services are delivered, to make them more effective and efficient.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment
Barnet’s Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is the evidence base for understanding current and future population-level need in Barnet. Designed to inform joined-up, evidence-based decision making and commissioning by the council, Barnet CCG, the Barnet Health and Wellbeing Board, voluntary groups, and providers.
Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment
A PNA is a document which records the assessment of the need for pharmaceutical services within a specific area. As such, it sets out:
- A statement of the pharmaceutical services which are currently provided, together with when and where these are available
- Details of planned or likely changes which may affect the future provision of pharmaceutical services
- Any current or future gaps in pharmaceutical services, taking into account the pharmaceutical needs of the population
The PNA will be used by NHS England to consider applications to open a new pharmacy, move an existing pharmacy or to commission additional services from pharmacy. The document will also be used by service commissioners to inform local commissioning strategy within Barnet, and may act as a reference source for existing pharmaceutical services contractors who may wish to change the services they provide and/or by potential new entrants to the market.
Barnet's 2018-2021 PNA
The report is currently at the draft stage and open to public consultation up until the 8th of April 2018; eligible to any patient or consumer living in Barnet (including community groups), and anyone who has an interest in the provision of pharmaceutical services. Publication is scheduled for the 1st of June 2018.
