Compulsory purchase order - a schedule of properties

  • Regeneration

In order to facilitate the delivery of the comprehensive Brent Cross Cricklewood Regeneration Scheme the Council has decided to make three Compulsory Purchase Orders (“CPOs”). The first CPO (referred to as “CPO1”) will facilitate the delivery of Phase 1A & Phase 1B North of the scheme. The second CPO (referred to as “CPO2”) will facilitate the delivery of Brent Cross Cricklewood South which includes Phase 1C and land to the south of the scheme. The third CPO (referred to as "CPO3") will facilitate the delivery of the new Thameslink Station in the southern area of the scheme.

A CPO is a legal tool which may be used by public bodies in order to facilitate the improvement, development and redevelopment of land, in this case, the regeneration of Brent Cross Cricklewood. If the CPOs are confirmed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, the Council will have the powers to compulsorily acquire the property and land identified in the respective CPOs.

CPO1 and CPO2 were made by the Council on 20 April 2015. Statutory notices of making the CPOs were subsequently published on 30th April 2015 and served on persons who have a property interest affected by the CPOs.

The public inquiry into the Compulsory Purchase Order 1 and Compulsory Purchase Order 2  for the Brent Cross Cricklewood Scheme started on Tuesday 17 May 2016 and closed on the 27th July. Further details will be made available on this website in due course.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has produced a series of five booklets which explains, in simple terms, how the compulsory purchase system works. For more information please contact Regeneration@barnet.gov.uk

West Hendon Regeneration

As part of the West Hendon regeneration, we have decided to make up to four separate Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPO). The first CPO will be called CPO1 which will include all properties in phase 3 of the development.

A CPO is a legal tool that helps to ensure that redevelopment can go ahead by giving us the power to compulsorily buy property and land identified in the CPO.

On 3 June 2014 the Council made CPO1. Order and notices were then served to all known persons who had an interest affected by the CPO on 5 June 2014.

On 17 June 2014 the Council made a revised order in respect of the estate. The Council has amended the wording of the Order dated 3 June 2014 to include a third paragraph in the Order dealing with the discharge of rights, incidents and trusts.  Please note that no amendments have been made to the Order Schedule, Statement of Reasons, the CPO advice sheet or the CPO Map (other than amending the date at the bottom of the CPO Map and on the last page of the Order Schedule). Order and notices were then served to all known persons who had an interest affected by the CPO on 5 June 2014.You may inspect these documents at the deposit locations stated in the enclosed Notice or in the documents on the right in the download section.

A CPO is a formal legal tool that helps to ensure that redevelopment can go ahead by giving the Council the power to compulsorily purchase property and land identified in the CPO if it cannot be bought by agreement.

On 6 December 2011 the Council made the Order and notices were then served to all known persons who had an interest affected by the CPO on 8 December.
