It's best to get there well before 3.45pm. The centre closes promptly at 4.15pm and gates will close to new visitors at 4.00pm and earlier in very busy times.
The centre is monitored by on-site security, ANPR and CCTV cameras.

'Second Time Around' reuse shop: donate or buy
A reuse shop, 'Second Time Around' is open at Summers Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre, every Tuesday, 9am - 4pm.
Donate household items in good condition to the shop. There's also a range of items for sale such as furniture, toys, sports equipment, clothes and other household items.
A Bicycle Reuse Scheme is also operating from the site. Find out more or call 020 8362 0752.
We do not accept trade waste at the centre. If we suspect that you are bringing trade waste to the centre, we will investigate you and you may be liable for prosecution.
Coming by van, pick-up truck or in a vehicle with a trailer

Please note: vans, pick ups and trailers over four foot must arrive before 3.30pm to ensure entry to the site and that the items can be unloaded before 4.15pm.

How to use the centre
There are different bays and banks for all the materials we collect. These are clearly labelled but ask any of our friendly staff to show you which containers to use.
Remember, any materials you put into the 'General Waste' container will not be recycled.
Can I take items from the centre?
Second Time Around Reuse Shop
The reuse shop operating from the site sells a range of household items in good condition such as range furniture, toys, sports equipment, clothes and other household items. If you have unwanted items that are in good condition they can also be donated.
Bicycle Reuse Scheme
There currently is a bicycle reuse scheme in operation with Recycle your Cycle. Recycle your Cycle work with the UK prison service to provide training in the refurbishment of bicycles. Bicycles are then sold on through charity shops across the country (and also in the Reuse Shop Second Time Around).
Paint Reuse Scheme
The site operates a re-use scheme for good quality re-usable paints for community groups and others to re-use.
Residents can donate good quality paint suitable for re-use at the RRC. Please place paint in the designated area on site or speak to a member of staff for assistance.
Paint is free for community groups, charities, sports clubs and individuals to collect from the site during opening hours. Please speak to a member of staff upon arrival at the site to view the paint available - when collecting the paint you will need to complete a short booking out form before taking away.
Please note we cannot guarantee the colours or volumes of paint available on site, as this will depend on the materials donated to the recycling centre.
Does the centre accept asbestos?
We don't accept cement-bonded asbestos.
If you have asbestos for removal, contact the City of London household hazardous waste collection and disposal service. Call 020 7332 3433 or book a collection online.

North London Waste Authority (NLWA)
The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) run the recycling centre at Summers Lane. Operations are carried out by LondonEnergy Ltd (LEL).
- Vans are accepted every day of the week provided users give 24 hours notice and provide proof of residency and ID. There is a limit of five van visits per year per household.
- Hardcore rubble: there is a limit to the amount of hardcore accepted which is six standard rubble bags or equivalent, no more than once per month per household.
- Soil acceptance: there is a limit to the amount of soil accepted which is six standard rubble bags or equivalent, no more than once per month per household.
