What is anti social behaviour?

Anti social behaviour is any action that causes harassment, alarm or distress to one or more people not of the same household.

It can include a range of problems such as:

  • hate crime
  • intimidation and harassment
  • noise
  • nuisance behaviour
  • street drinking

If you are the victim of anti social behaviour, you should report this to your local police, Barnet Council or your landlord.

How to report anti social behaviour and crime in Barnet

In a non emergency

For people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and autism

The Barnet Safe Places network helps vulnerable people if they feel scared, anxious or at risk while they are out in the community.

If you feel unsafe in pubs and clubs

Approach venue staff and 'ask for Angela'.

This code-phrase will let staff know that someone needs help with their situation. A trained member of staff will then help them. This might be through reuniting them with a friend, seeing them to a taxi, or by calling venue security and/or the police.

Report a hate crime

A hate crime is a crime committed against someone because of their disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, ethnicity or nationality.

You can also visit your nearest Hate Crime Reporting Centre for help.

Domestic and sexual abuse

Find support for domestic or sexual abuse if you or someone you know has experienced this.

Visit a Community Safety Hub

We have launched Community Safety Hubs as part of a pilot scheme. You can drop-in to anonymously report any behaviour that makes you or others feel unsafe.

Keep a diary

keeping a diary helps us investigate the events that you witness.

Include as much detail as possible about the:

  • incident(s)
  • people involved
  • dates and times
  • effect the behaviour had on you.

You may find that your neighbours are experiencing similar behaviour. If so, you could ask them to report any incidents and to keep a diary of events too.
