If you have come to the UK and need to stay because you fear harm or unfair treatment in your home country, you may be allowed to apply for asylum.
- Get information about the asylum process and how to apply on the government website - GOV.UK.
- Get help with immigration by finding an immigration adviser who can help you stay in the UK
Benefits
If you have applied for asylum and are waiting for your refugee status to be decided: support from the Home Office (money and/or housing) will stop 3-4 weeks from the date your refugee status is confirmed.
- The Department for Work and Pensions has a guide for refugees on applying for benefits in the 28 days before they must leave asylum accommodation.
For more help during the asylum process:
- visit Asylum advice and guidance | Migrant Help
- call their 24/7 helpline on 0808 8010 503 for help in your own language. Ask for the Move On service if you have recently received a decision about your refugee status and you need support.
