Explanation of increase
There are three different elements of council tax. The overall increase in amount residents in Barnet pay once the 3 different elements of council tax are combined for 2024/2025 is 5.8% (rounded to 1 decimal place).
The three elements of your council tax are:
- London Borough of Barnet (LBB) general increase of 2.98% (This 2.98% increase applies against Barnet’s combined element of the 2023/24 Council Tax only)
- LBB Adult Social Care increase of 2% (This 2% increase applies against Barnet’s combined element of the 2023/2024 Council Tax only)
- Greater London Authority increase of 8.6% (LBB has no control over this element)

Changes to your property that affect banding
Your property may be revalued and put in a different band if:
- you make major alterations to it, such as adding an extension or annexe (the band won’t change until you sell the property)
- you split a single property into self-contained flats
- you convert flats into a single property
- you start or stop working from home
- there are significant changes to your local area, like a new road being built.
You may get a separate Council Tax bill if your property includes a self-contained annexe
