Air handling units

Complaints about noise or fumes from an air handling unit

If you have a complaint about noise, fumes or smells from an air handling unit please contact the scientific services team.

Cooling towers and Legionnaires' disease

Many large factories, shops and office blocks have cooling towers associated with their air conditioning units. As there is a risk of spreading Legionnaires' disease from these units, they must be registered with the local authority by contacting the health and safety team.

Water cooling systems

Air handling units within buildings may be linked to air conditioning systems. If they use a water evaporative cooling system they can pose a risk to health if they are not properly maintained. Any person responsible for, or any business using a water cooled system, must carry out a thorough risk assessment and make sure it does not pose a risk to public health.
