Use of Local Green Space Designation
Received: 13 July 2021
Dear Sir/ Madam,
Freedom of Information / Environmental Information Regulations Request: Local Green Space Data
We are gathering information on the location and size of local green spaces (LGS) designated across England. LGS are defined in policies set out in paragraphs 99 to 101 of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). We are aware that LGS can be designated at either the local or neighbourhood plan level.
We would be grateful if you could supply, in electronic format, information on:
1. the number, name (where known), location and size of areas designated as 'Local Green Space' (in accordance with the definition set by the NPPF) within current (adopted or made) development plan documents within your local authority area.
2. which development plan document (adopted local plan or made neighbourhood plan) each local green space is defined in, and the year the plan was adopted or made.
3. the reasons for their designation. The NPPF gives guidance on justifying a local green space designation due to beauty, historical significance, recreational value, tranquillity or richness of wildlife. We would like to know whether the local green space falls into one or more of these categories.
I would be grateful if you could confirm that you have received this request and that all data be sent via email. Where possible we would want information requested under point (1) to be supplied in a file type capable of being read and analysed in a geographical information system (GIS). For points (2) and (3) we would request that the information is supplied in Excel format.
If you need any clarification on the information required, please contact me by email.
With kind regards,
