Youth mental health first aid

The Barnet Public Health Resilient Schools Programme is pioneering in its efforts to match the government’s mental health guidelines of having a Mental Health Youth First Aider in every secondary school by 2020 and has extended this to primary schools to address the importance of early intervention.

The Youth Mental Health First Aider is an accredited course and by the by the end of the two days, staff will have an increased confidence and knowledge to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health issues
  • Provide initial help
  • Guide the young person towards appropriate professional help
  • Be mindful of their own wellbeing
  • Become part of a network of trained Youth First Aiders in Barnet

Our next training is 18th and 19th March 2019 with further dates over the Spring and Summer Terms.

If you are interested in booking a place for March or registering for future dates, please contact Jayne Abbott – Mental Health & Resilient Schools Programme Manager at Jayne.abbott@barnet.gov.uk
