Youth mental health first aid
The Barnet Public Health Resilient Schools Programme is offering free training to all Barnet primary and secondary schools to address the importance of early intervention in mental wellbeing. Barnet aims to have a Youth Mental Health First Aider in all schools by the end of 2020.
The Youth Mental Health First Aider is an accredited course and by the by the end of the two days, staff will have an increased confidence and knowledge to:
- recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health issues
- provide initial help
- guide the young person towards appropriate professional help
- be mindful of their own wellbeing.
COVID-19 service changes
Due to COVID-19 we are unable to offer group training at present. We will be providing online, 3-hour Youth Mental Health Awareness training throughout the Autumn Term – dates to be confirmed.
Public Health are also able to offer our free online training of Psychological First Aid, which offers guidance on delivering psychosocial care in the immediate aftermath of the emergency event. On the course, you’ll explore the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and what you can do to help people cope.
