New fixed testing centre in Burnt Oak set for go-live

A Local Testing Site (LTS) with walk-in capabilities, will supplement Mobile Testing Units that are available at different sites across the borough, on 3-4 days a week. The LTS will be located at Watling Community Centre in Burnt Oak, and will be open from 8am until 8pm, seven days a week. The LTS has been risk assessed and it is COVID-19 Secure, with all mitigation risks being put in place to minimise any disturbance to surrounding neighbourhoods.

Dr Tamara Djuretic, the Council’s Director of Public Health and Prevention, said: “We are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases nationally, across London and in Barnet. A key action to prevent the further spread of the virus is to test everybody who has symptoms of COVID-19, as soon as possible. Ensuring we have a Local Testing Site is a very important development for the borough, and I want to say a big thank you to all our colleagues who have worked tirelessly this week to make it a reality.

“The site is in pilot phase at the moment, but we look forward to the Local Testing Site fully opening its doors to the local residents and meeting this vital need, in the coming days.”

Mobile testing units are still going to be deployed regularly in the borough, and you can view the latest dates and locations here. To book a test either at an MTU or at the Watling Community Centre, visit the Government’s test booking site at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.

Staff who just turn up will not be able to have a test. A place can be booked at the Barnet sites or any other location near you, via the national booking site at: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.

It is especially important, as case numbers have recently risen in the borough and at a time where more people across the country may be considering a return to work, that if you or any of your family members or friends exhibit symptoms of the virus, that you apply to take a test as soon as possible. We all need to remember to stay alert to control the virus and save lives.

COVID-19 testing – mobile unit to remain in Barnet on Thursday 30th April

Following a high uptake of tests at the mobile COVID-19 testing unit at Edgware Community Hospital today, the unit will remain at the site on Thursday, 30th April. The unit will be open for both drive-through and people who arrive on foot for tests and is going to be available at the hospital located in Burnt Oak Broadway, HA8 0AD, tomorrow (Wednesday 29 April) from 10.30am to 3.30pm. However, for tomorrow, ALL appointments must be pre-booked. Staff who just turn up will not be able to have a test. We will keep you updated as to any further mobile testing available in the borough on our website here: https://www.barnet.gov.uk/internal/covid-19-testing-news-and-updates.

If you or your staff are eligible for testing as frontline key workers, and are at home self-isolating with COVID-like symptoms, developed in the last three days, or are self-isolating because a family member has developed COVID-like symptoms, then a place must be booked via the national booking site at: www.northcentrallondonccg.nhs.uk/covid-19-staff-testing.

*Please note that guidelines for testing specify that individuals should be tested within the first three days of showing symptoms, as this is when they appear to be most infectious.  It is therefore vital that eligible employees or members of their household undertake testing as soon as possible.

Please refer back to Friday’s email for full details of who is eligible for testing.

Barnet's mobile testing site open on Tuesday 28th from 10:30am

The Government has announced that COVID-19 testing is now available to all frontline workers. The National Testing Programme provides coronavirus tests to frontline workers or symptomatic members of their household, and the programme now includes some Local Authority staff.

A Barnet mobile testing site is now available on Tuesday 28th April from 10:30am to 3:30pm for key workers who are symptomatic, have valid public sector (or private health and care sector ID) and are aged over 18. Further sites will be available in Barking and Hillingdon on Wednesday 29 April.

Eligible key workers from the public sector, private health and social care sector, and voluntary sector can attend the site without an appointment. You may also be able to book a timed appointment, as can other key workers, via the national booking portal once these locations are available on the drop down menu.
