Elections for the Mayor of London and Greater London Assembly will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021.

There are three separate elections:

  • The Mayor, for which voters have a first and second choice vote
  • Greater London Assembly London wide members (11 Members) and
  • Greater London Assembly Constituency Members (14 members). Barnet and Camden form one constituency and will elect one constituency member.

A By Election for one Councillor in Edgware Ward will also be held on Thursday 6 May 2021.

Are you registered to vote? Check your Household Notification Letter

To vote in the May elections, you must be on the Electoral Register. In the next few weeks, each household in Barnet will receive a 'Household Notification Letter’ which lists everyone that is registered to vote at that address. If you are listed on the Household Notification Letter you don’t need to do anything. However, if you are not listed you will need to register online by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

To be eligible to vote in the May elections, residents must be 18 or over, be British, Irish or a Commonwealth or European Union citizen. You must register to vote by Monday 19 April.

Don’t forget, even if you are registered to pay council tax, you are not automatically registered to vote. If you have recently moved to a new house, you will need to re-register.

Why not apply to vote by post?

Voting by post is a convenient and secure way of voting, especially if you are unable, or would prefer not to go to your polling station. In these uncertain times we are encouraging electors to apply early to vote by post. You need to complete an application form which can be found online at www.barnet.gov.uk/postalvote.  Your completed application form for a postal vote must be received by the Electoral Services team by 5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2021.

To find out more about how to register and the ways you can vote, visit: www.barnet.gov.uk/elections or contact Barnet Electoral Services at ero@barnet.gov.uk or 020 8359 5577.
