Each year, the Worshipful Mayor of Barnet recognises just some of the many individuals and organisations who have gone above and beyond to provide support to their neighbours and communities in Barnet.

Traditionally, the annual awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations from across the borough in two categories: 'Lifetime Achievement' and 'Outstanding Service to the Community'. Due to the unprecedented challenges the pandemic has presented in the past year, a new category, 'The COVID-19 Community Heroes Award' was created to recognise individuals and organisations who stepped up to help as part of the COVID-19 response.

The recipients of the Civic Awards 2021 are:

Lifetime Achievement:

  • Sue Cipin
  • Chagit Kramar
  • Chief Abbot Venerable U.Uttara

Outstanding Service to the Community

  • Alyth Refugee Drop-In (pictured above)
  • David Parry
  • Fiona Quinton
  • Philip Jarrett
  • Jenny & Kieran Kettleton

COVID-19 Community Heroes Award

  • Helen Webb
  • Middlesex University staff and students
  • Barnet Together
  • Jessica Woodroffe

The recipients of the Barnet Civic Awards 2021 all received a doorstep visit from the former Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Caroline Stock, to present their awards and celebrate their hard work and achievements in supporting Barnet's communities throughout a very difficult year.

Cllr Caroline Stock said: “It was a great honour to be the Mayor of Barnet and I feel truly privileged to have spent my time as Mayor meeting such incredible individuals, who regularly dedicate their time and energy to helping others. This help can sometimes be on a weekly basis, but often it’s on a daily basis, making sure that others less fortunate than themselves manage life’s challenges. These individuals voluntarily contribute to our great Borough, and it is heartening to understand their stories and contributions. It was a privilege to be able to acknowledge just a few with an award as one of my final acts as Mayor.”
