The Leader of Barnet Council, Cllr Barry Rawlings, has given a statement on the tragic events in Hong Kong following a fire in a high-rise public housing complex in Tai Po district.

Cllr Rawlings said:
“Barnet is home to London’s largest Hong Konger community. We express our heartfelt condolences following the terrible fire in the high-rise blocks in Tai Po. Our thoughts and prayers are with our residents who are affected. We stand in sympathy with those who have lost loved ones or who are anxiously awaiting news of family or friends caught up in the disaster.

“We encourage our residents who are concerned for the whereabouts of loved ones to access the latest information from government. The Foreign Office has information about contacts and emergency services in Hong Kong on its website: https://www.gov.uk/world/hong-kong. Barnet’s community ties are strong and will ensure no one touched by the tragedy will grieve alone.”
