Barnet to read ‘Ten Days’ with the rest of London

Author: Dalitso Njolinjo

Published:

Every April, Cityread London unites thousands of lives through literature, placing one book at the heart of the capital. Barnet libraries will be joining the rest of London by reading and discussing this year’s chosen book; ‘Ten Days’ by Gillian Slovo.

‘Ten Days’ is a gripping novel inspired by the author’s research into the 2011 riots in London. The story is told through three perspectives: the police, politicians and residents, exploring what happens when these three worlds, together with the hard realities of living in the capital, collide.

Copies of the book are available from all Barnet libraries and the ebook edition can be downloaded from barnet.lib.overdrive.com

To celebrate the book being chosen for Cityread, the author Gillian Slovo will be visiting Chipping Barnet Library on Friday 22 April, from 6.30pm. She will be talking about her writing process, what influenced her to write ‘Ten Days’, answering questions and signing books during the event.

Tickets are free and available from Chipping Barnet Library and Waterstones in the Spires Shopping centre, High Barnet. Waterstones will be offering a £4 discount on hardback copies of ‘Ten Days’ purchased on the night of the event. Alternatively, readers can pre-book their tickets by ringing 02083594040.

Other events throughout the month include historical talks, a photography exhibition and book club discussions. To find out more visit: www.barnet.gov.uk/cityread2016.
