It is estimated that 4,435 people in the borough have dementia and this is projected to increase to 6,806 by 2035.

Barnet Council and the CCG, working closely with the Barnet Alzheimer’s Society, have trained more than 10,000 Dementia Friends in the borough to date and are committed to increasing this number further to ensure that Barnet is a truly dementia friendly borough for our residents.

Councillor Caroline Stock, Chair of the Barnet Health & Wellbeing Board, said: “We will continue to work with everyone who is affected by dementia in the borough. This includes residents who live with the condition, and their family, friends and carers. We work with the NHS, care providers, the voluntary sector and local businesses within the Dementia Friendly Barnet partnership.

“We will continue to support people with dementia to live a full and active life. We will work to tackle stigma associated with the condition. We will promote opportunities for people with dementia to live well and raise awareness of the importance of ‘end of life’ planning in advance.”

All organisations and local businesses are welcome to join the Dementia Friendly Barnet partnership – if you would like to join, please email Seher.Kayikci@barnet.gov.uk.
