There is an action packed summer of fun ahead with a programme of courses for young people in Barnet.

Getting underway this month, there is once again an extensive calendar of activities and courses on offer across the borough aimed at inspiring 8 to 19 year olds (up to 25 for people with learning difficulties and disabilities).

Every year more than 2,000 young people take part in the council’s Youth Service Positive Activities Programme.

This summer will see more than 50 exciting courses and activities available to young people who are living or being educated in the borough.

The activities are intended to give participants a chance to try something different, have fun, gain new skills and meet new people.

This year’s programme, which runs from 23 July to 17 August, includes diverse courses such as performing arts, music production, poetry, windsurfing, horse riding, kayaking, radio-controlled car workshops, app design, and circus skills.

Councillor David Longstaff, Chairman of the Children, Education and Safeguarding Committee, said: “These summer activities are a superb way for young people to learn a completely new skill or sport while meeting new people and socialising over the summer break.

“As always, these courses are hugely popular and offer some really interesting activities.

“Places are always snapped up very quickly so I would encourage anyone who is interested to book up as soon as possible and get involved.”
