The consultation, which runs until 22 February, gives residents, stakeholders and businesses the opportunity to express their views and influence the draft priorities and objectives set out in ‘The Burroughs and Middlesex University Supplementary Planning Document’ (SPD).

If agreed, the SPD would set out the principles for any proposed future regeneration opportunities with the aim of ensuring the area is a cohesive place for the local community and educational home of Middlesex University.

This draft planning framework includes a proposed vision for enhancing the built environment, public and green spaces, improving traffic and pedestrian movement through the area, delivering new purpose built and managed student accommodation, opportunities for new conventional housing, improving the local economy and providing better links with open spaces in Copthall and Sunny Hill.

Councillor Shimon Ryde, Chairman of Barnet Council’s Strategic Planning Committee, said: “This document is a very important planning tool and a way for us to help guide and shape any development in this part of Hendon. If adopted, it will play a key part in how we as local planning authority decide any future planning applications as and when they come forward.

“I would encourage as many residents and businesses as possible to take the time to get involved and give us their views.”

Consultation on The Burroughs and Middlesex University Supplementary Planning Document will run until Monday 22 February. For more information, and to contribute to the consultation, people should visit the engage website

Two online consultation sessions are scheduled for February so people can give their views and ask any questions they may have. These will take place on Wednesday 3 Feb 6pm-7.30pm and Monday 15 Feb 6pm-7.30pm. Full details of how to book a space are available online
