Residents should have received a leaflet telling them their new collection day, with a six-month collection calendar included. Residents must leave their bin at the boundary of their property by 6am on the day of their collection.

If a resident is unsure of when their collection day is, they can check online by visiting: www.barnet.gov.uk/recycling and clicking “Bin collection day”.

If a residents’ bin is not collected when they think it should be, they should visit our recycling and waste pages and click “Bin collection updates”. Our crews will be out until late afternoon and so, if their road is not listed, we request that residents report their missed bin after 5pm by visiting our recycling and waste pages and clicking “Report a missed bin”.

Why are the recycling and waste collection days changing?

We are making changes to the recycling and waste collections to make them more efficient and it also means we can collect all residents’ bins on the same day (eliminating the need for garden waste bins to be collected on a Saturday). The changes will also enable us to be more responsive to local issues and to be fully prepared for the future growth of the borough.

Chairman of Barnet Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Dean Cohen, said: “We’re pleased to be up and running with the new recycling and waste collections.

“We are working hard to ensure that these changes go as smoothly as possible and will provide regular service updates on our website -  www.barnet.gov.uk/recycling. These changes are expected to save £750,000 annually and should make collections simpler.

“Residents should have now received their leaflet with information about their new collection day and we will be doing our utmost to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
