The sites in New Barnet and Barnet Copthall will contain state-of-the-art facilities for the community to enjoy. Councillor Sachin Rajput, Chairman of Adults and Safeguarding Committee and Lead Member for Sport and Physical Activity, said: “This is an extremely exciting project. We are fortunate to have been able to invest so much in the creation of these top-notch facilities for our borough. It is something we should all be proud of. I can’t wait to see them open their doors next summer.”

New Barnet will have a learner pool, 25m six-lane community pool, café, health and fitness suite, multi-use games area, partnership library, two health improvement rooms and group exercise studios. The shell of the facility, which is in Victoria Recreation Ground, has now been fully constructed. It will replace the existing Church Farm Leisure Centre on completion, while the library will replace the current East Barnet Library.

Barnet Copthall will have a learner pool, 25m six-lane community pool, 25m eight-lane competition pool, five-court sports hall, health and fitness suite, three health improvement rooms and group exercise studios and a cafe. The new leisure centre will replace the one that is currently operating at the site.

The work is being funded by the council, with an additional cash injection of National Lottery funding from Sport England. Both leisure centres are due to open in summer 2019. The existing Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre and Church Farm Leisure Centre will remain open as normal until the new facilities have been completed.
