Barnet Council is hosting an exciting week of activities and events for those over 55 to celebrate older people and their contribution to society.

The wide variety of events include; Tai Chi in the park, social and informal IT sessions, tea dances, Bollywood dancing 50 + fitness and much more.

Silver Sunday is a national annual event celebrated on or around 2 October; it is led by the charity, the Sir Simon Milton Foundation to combat loneliness and isolation.

There are 472 events around the UK, with over 60 taking place in the borough, running from 1 October until 7 October.

Cllr Sachin Rajput, Chairman of Barnet’s Adults and Safeguarding Committee, said:

“The council will be celebrating several fun events and activities in the borough for older people from 1 October until 7 October. I would encourage older people to come and join in and step outside their comfort zone.

"People are welcome to join in the activities and celebrate the value and knowledge that older people bring to the community. It’s also a great way to try something new, make new friends and overcome loneliness and isolation, that some may be experiencing.”

Working in partnership with a number of local organisations and with sponsorship from Capita, this is the second year that Barnet will extend the celebrations for a full week to ensure as many people as possible are able to take part.
