Do you have a great idea and need help getting it off the ground?

Through a community crowdfunding initiative, as part of the Barnet Together campaign, residents will be able to apply for up to £5,000 in funding to bring their ideas to life.

From community gardens and street murals to festivals and sports facilities, crowdfunding allows people to pitch ideas for projects that will improve Barnet's high streets, residential neighbourhoods, parks and open spaces.

This innovative approach to community fundraising allows residents, businesses and community groups to pitch and support ideas that they want to see become a reality in their local area.

Residents, local businesses and community groups are able to post their ideas through the online platform, Spacehive, asking members of the public, government and businesses to pledge funding for the project.

Projects will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with the council pledging support to projects that have demonstrated there is a demand within the community for their ideas and have raised a substantial amount of funding towards the project.

In total, there is £50,000 of funding available through a partnership between the council, Re, and Capita.

Residents who are interested in learning more about crowdfunding are invited to attend a workshop on Wednesday, 26 July where they will get helpful tips from Spacehive about getting your idea off the ground.

The workshop will be held at the Hope Corner Community Centre and residents can sign up for free.

The initiative, which encourages residents and businesses to develop and support ideas for civic improvements, was officially launched at Middlesex University on 5 July by the Mayor.

The Leader of Barnet Council, Councillor Richard Cornelius, said: “The Barnet Together crowdfunding initiative provides opportunities for our residents, young and old, to put forward ideas to fund community projects in Barnet. This is a new platform for our residents that will provide everyone with a space to discuss, share and support new community projects that will, in turn, transform our borough for the better.”
