Consultation is currently underway to gather people’s views and opinions on Barnet’s Children and Young People’s Plan (2019-2023). The consultation runs until 7 April.

The draft plan has been developed by drawing together input from children and young people, as well as a range of organisations including the police, voluntary sector groups, and education and health services.

The four-year plan sets out the vision and key priorities, which will help children and young people in the borough reach their full potential and enjoy their rights within the community.

There are seven key aims outlined to support children and young people, including that they are safe and protected from harm, that children are supported to have a healthy start in life, that they can learn about the world around them, that children are included at the heart of decision making, and that information is shared effectively with children.

The plan is supported by Barnet Council’s three-year partnership with global children’s charity, UNICEF UK, to embed children’s rights across the borough to ensure their voices are heard and their priorities influence decisions which affect their lives.

It also reflects Barnet’s ambition to become the most family friendly borough in London by 2020.

Councillor David Longstaff, Chairman of the Children, Education and Safeguarding Committee, said: “This plan is will be very important in assisting the council and other key organisations over the coming years, and reflects our ambition of becoming the most family-friendly borough in London.

“I would like to encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the consultation and to give us their views.”

The consultation is available to view on the Barnet engage website.
