We are supporting a national campaign to bring empty properties back into use

This year's Empty Homes Week runs from 23-29 September, aiming to raise awareness of long-term empty homes and options available for bringing them back into residential use.

There are currently 1,338 empty homes in the London Borough of Barnet. Tackling empty properties increases the number of homes in the borough, reduces the fear of crime in local communities and can reduce the risk of antisocial behaviour.

If you own an empty property, it could be costing more than you think, with repairs, and deteriorating conditions. Where empty properties have been identified, Barnet Council will work informally with owners to bring them back into use.

This may involve council staff offering advice and/or financial assistance. An Empty Property Grant of up to £25,500 is available to landlords in return for a short-term lease with Barnet Homes. If people have to leave their home to go into care they may also be able to apply.
