The SHAPE programme delivered by Barnet Council has launched a fun and energising summer programme for the young residents of Barnet to coincide with school holidays, running until Friday 26th August 2016.
The three year programme which is now in its second year aims to get 14 to 19-year-olds involved in sport and physical activity in Burnt Oak and Colindale.
The launch of the Summer programme follows a successful Spring term for the SHAPE team which saw a significant increase in attendance numbers and the launch of several new sessions including street dance, basketball and football sessions.
Councillor Sachin Rajput, Chairman of the Adults and Safeguarding committee and Lead for Sport and Physical Activity said:
“In the two years the SHAPE programme has been running, it has engaged more than 1,000 young people, and supported others to achieve qualifications and employment.
“In April this year the project was shortlisted from 600 national applicants to a final 14 as part of the Annual National Lottery awards for Sports Project of the Year - which is a testament to all involved in this fantastic initiative.”
“These free sessions which are all about encouraging young people to get active in a fun and positive environment are a great way to keep teenagers entertained during the school holidays.”
