A number of ‘Friends of’ park groups across Barnet have answered a call from Barnet Council to get involved in the nationwide Clean for The Queen campaign.

Clean for the Queen is a new initiative aimed at inspiring people from across the country to do their bit to clean up their neighbourhoods ahead of Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday in April.

Campaigners are calling for a mass clean-up to take place on the weekend of March 4 – 6 and local authorities including Barnet are giving it their backing.

The council’s Greenspaces and Street Scene departments are working alongside ‘Friends of’ park groups to organise litter picks in the borough’s parks and open spaces. So far a total of seven clean-up events are planned in Barnet including events at Highlands Gardens, Friary Park, Windsor Open Spaces, Cherry Tree Woods and Childs Hill and Mill Hill parks. If you’d like to get involved visit the council’s page for a full list of events and their locations

Individual residents are also being asked to do their bit by litter picking their street or organising a community clean-up event at a local park or playground.

Cllr Richard Cornelius, Leader of Barnet Council, said: "This campaign is the perfect opportunity for us at the council to come together with the local community, local businesses and charities to play our part in keeping Barnet clean. We know Barnet residents are proud of our parks and open spaces and this campaign gives us a great opportunity to make a positive impact on where we live.

“We will be launching our own cleaner streets campaign later on in the year and will working hard to keep the momentum going all year long.”

Richard Tester, Chair of the Friends of Friary Park who have organised a litter pick on Friday 4th March from 10.30am – 12noon said:  “The Friends of Friary Park value the park as an essential local amenity and we take pride in helping to ensure its kept up to a good standard".
