If you currently live within a school street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) you will need a school street exemption permit to be able to travel through the (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) in your vehicle during the restricted days and times.
If your current workplace’s business address is within a school street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) you will need a school street exemption permit to be able to travel through the (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) in your vehicle during the restricted days and times.
If you are currently employed at a school on a permanent basis (for example on the school’s payroll) that is within a school street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) you will need a school street exemption permit to be able to travel through the (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) in your vehicle during the restricted days and times.
If you currently live within a school street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) and you require essential home visits by a doctor, district nurse, similar healthcare professional or voluntary carer you can apply for a School Street Exemption (Carer of Resident) parking permit to allow your carer to be able to travel through the (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) in their vehicle during the restricted days and times.
Signs on the street will give more information about the school street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) and its operating hours.
These permits are virtual, which means you do not need to display anything in your vehicle. Your permit is electronic and is associated with your vehicle registration number.
You can apply for a 12 month permit.
You will receive email renewal reminders in advance of the permit expiry date.
Households and businesses can hold up to a maximum of 4 permits at any 1 time.
The number of permits issued to a school would have been defined before the inception of the school street scheme.

Apply for a school street parking permit (resident)
Proof of address
one copy of the following accepted proof (except for the utility bills where you are required to provide two copies)
- council tax demand within the last 12 month period clearly showing your name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in.
- signed rent agreement within the last 12 month period clearly showing your name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in.
- signed solicitor’s letter showing the house purchase completion date and also clearly showing your name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) you currently live in.
- 2 utility bills from different suppliers within the last 12 months clearly showing your name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in. We do not accept mobile phone bills.
- driver’s license clearly showing your name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in.
Proof of vehicle ownership
Cars registered at the permit holder’s address
one copy of the following accepted proof:
- vehicle logbook (V5C) registered in the same name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in. We do not accept the new keeper supplement (V5C/2).
- insurance policy schedule clearly showing your name as the main policy holder, vehicle registration number and that the vehicle is insured/kept overnight at the same address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in. We do not accept the certificate of motor insurance.
- motability agreement schedule clearly showing the vehicle registration number, which is registered in the same name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in.
- if you have a private vehicle registration, we will need you to provide a copy of the certificate of entitlement (V750). Your certificate of entitlement is provided by the DVLA (Driver and Licensing Agency). We will also require you to provide an insurance policy schedule or vehicle logbook (V5C) once this is received for audit purposes.
- if you have a foreign vehicle, we will need you to provide the vehicle registration document (equivalent of the UK vehicle logbook (V5C) document). We will also require you to provide an insurance policy schedule or vehicle logbook (V5C) once the vehicle is registered in the UK for audit purposes (you can only legally drive a foreign registered vehicle up to six months in a 12 month period without registering it, as long as the car is taxed and insured in its home country).
Cars not registered at the permit holder’s address
If you have a company car, we need a signed and recently dated letter from your employer on current printed business stationery showing the full trading address, VAT registration number or company registration number. The letter must state:
- your full name
- that you are permanent employee of the company (registered on the company’s payroll)
- your vehicle registration number
- your full address in the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in where the vehicle is insured/kept overnight
If you have a long term lease or hire vehicle, we need a recently dated copy of the agreement on headed paper. The agreement must state:
- your full name
- the length and terms of the agreement on headed paper from the lease or hire company
- your vehicle registration number
- your full address in the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that you currently live in where the vehicle is insured/kept overnight

Application form
- a copy of the fully completed, dated and signed carer’s application form within the last 12 months. Please be advised that only a medical practitioner/doctor from the GP (that you are currently registered to) can and must complete, stamp and sign Section B of the application form.
Proof of vehicle ownership (carer)
one copy of the following accepted proof:
- vehicle logbook (V5C) or insurance policy schedule for the respective vehicle in the same name as the applicant.
- if you have a private vehicle registration, we will need you to provide a copy of the certificate of entitlement (V750). Your certificate of entitlement is provided by the DVLA (Driver and Licensing Agency). We will also require you to provide an insurance policy schedule or vehicle logbook (V5C) once this is received for audit purposes.
- if you have a foreign vehicle, we will need you to provide the vehicle registration document (equivalent of the UK vehicle logbook (V5C) document). We will also require you to provide an insurance policy schedule or vehicle logbook (V5C) once the vehicle is registered in the UK for audit purposes (you can only legally drive a foreign registered vehicle up to six months in a 12 month period without registering it, as long as the car is taxed and insured in its home country).

- your current business rates demand within the last 12 month period clearly showing the business/organisations name and address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) that your current workplace’s business is trading from.
- a letter on current printed business stationery showing the full trading address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) and VAT registration number or company registration number.
We will also require:
- a business case on current printed business stationery detailing how using the vehicle is essential to the success of your business – this letter helps us decide whether to issue you a permit.
Proof of vehicle ownership
one copy of the following accepted proof:
- vehicle logbook (V5C) registered in the same name as the person whose current workplace’s business address is within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone). We do not accept the new keeper supplement (V5C/2).
- insurance policy schedule clearly showing the vehicle registration number and the same name as the person whose current workplace’s business address is within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone). We do not accept the certificate of motor insurance.

- your full name
- confirming that you are permanent employee of the school (registered on the school’s payroll)
- confirming that you have been given permission to apply for a School Street Exemption parking permit.
- your vehicle registration number

Vehicles used to transport pupils with Special Education Needs, Disabilities or Limited mobility
The school can apply for permits to cover vehicles used to transport pupils with Special Education Needs, Disabilities or Limited mobility.
This applies to vehicles used by parents/carers and coaches, or minibuses used for pupil transport e.g. vehicles nominated by our Transport Brokering team.
In circumstances where a pupil is transported to and from school by a private hire vehicle, we will initially need to ascertain whether the fare is carried out by the same driver or multiple drivers prior to determining if permit(s) can be issued.
School evidence
We require a signed and recently dated letter from the school on current printed school stationery showing the full school address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) detailing the following:
- confirmation that the school have granted permission for the named vehicle (not a private hire vehicle) to be used to transport pupils with Special Education Needs, Disabilities or Limited mobility
- the nominated vehicle registration number
Parents/Carers related to Pupils who hold a Blue Badge
If you are a parent/carer of a current pupil of the school who holds a Blue Badge. You may be eligible to apply for a permit to enable you to be able to travel through the (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) in your vehicle during the restricted days and times.
The parent/carer of the pupil would need to contact us directly by email help@mipermit.com to request the school street exemption parking permit. They will need to provide the following:
School evidence
We require a signed and recently dated letter from the school on current printed school stationery showing the full school address within the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only Zone) detailing the following:
- the pupil who currently attends the school’s full name
- the full name of the parent/carer
- confirmation that the school have granted permission to the parent/carer of the pupil to apply for a School Street Exemption parking permit.
- the nominated vehicle registration number
Proof of blue badge
- copy of the front of the Blue Badge (must be current and valid for a minimum of 12 months)
- copy of the back of the Blue Badge (must be current and valid for a minimum of 12 months)
Once the request has been approved, a permit will be issued for the parent/carer.
Where a parent/carer is a Blue Badge holder of a pupil currently attending the school then we will deal with these on a case by case basis. These requests will also need to be sent directly to us by email help@mipermit.com

Apply for a school street permit
Foreign vehicles
If you own a vehicle that is registered in another country and you plan on keeping the vehicle for more than 6 months you will need to register your vehicle with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency)
We can issue you with a parking permit for a 12 month period but will need you to provide the vehicle registration document (equivalent of the UK vehicle logbook (V5C) document).
If the Co2 emissions are not mentioned in the vehicle registration document, then the permit charge would need to be based on the vehicle’s engine size.
Once you have registered the vehicle in the UK you must upload the updated vehicle document to your permit account.
When you add the vehicle registration number to the permit account, please ensure that you do not use hyphens at any point. For example, TE51ST instead of TE-51-ST.
Renew your parking permit
We will send you email reminders 4 weeks, 2 weeks and the day before your current permit is due to expire.

If you no longer require your parking permit, you can cancel the permit in your account.

Terms and conditions of use
- Only the resident that currently lives in the address that falls within the eligible property ranges of School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) as stipulated within the relevant traffic order can apply for a School Street Exemption (Resident) parking permit.
- Only the person whose current workplace’s business address falls within the eligible property ranges of the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) as stipulated within the relevant traffic order can apply for a School Street Exemption (Business) parking permit.
- Only the person whose current workplace’s school address falls within the eligible property ranges of the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) as stipulated within the relevant traffic order can apply for a School Street Exemption (School) parking permit.
- The person must be employed by the school on a permanent basis (on the school’s payroll).
- Only the resident that currently lives in the address falls within the eligible property ranges of School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) as stipulated within the relevant traffic order that requires essential home visits by a doctor, district nurse, similar healthcare professional or voluntary carer can apply for a School Street Exemption (Carer of Resident) parking permit.
- The School Street Exemption (Carer of Resident) parking permit can only be used by a doctor, district nurse, similar healthcare professional or voluntary carer visiting the resident in the home that the resident currently lives in that falls within the eligible property ranges of School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) as stipulated within the relevant traffic order.
- The School Street Exemption parking permits are issued as a virtual, electronic permit which are valid for a specific vehicle.
- It is the responsibility of the permit holder to ensure that they supply the correct vehicle registration number when applying for their permit.
- The maximum number of School Street Exemption parking permits that shall be issued to any household or business at any one time shall be 4.
- The maximum number of School Street Exemption (Carer of Resident) parking permits that shall be issued is per resident that currently lives at an address that falls within the eligible property ranges of School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) as stipulated within the relevant traffic order of whom requires essential home visits by a doctor, district nurse, similar healthcare professional or voluntary carer.
- The maximum number of School Street Exemption parking permits issued to a school are agreed before the inception of the scheme.
- The permit holder can only access the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) which has the same zone identified letter(s) associated with the permit and shown on the entry time plates of the School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone).
- Failure to have a valid School Street Exemption parking permit during the specified hours of the given School Street (Pedestrian and Cycle only zone) may result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) being issued to the vehicle.
- The council may revoke a permit if it is believed that the permit is being misused. Where a vehicle has 3 or more unpaid and outstanding Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) issued that have progressed to 'charge certificate' stage (by this stage there is no longer a right of appeal) then a new or renewed permit will not be issued for that vehicle until all of the outstanding Penalty Charge Notices have been paid or the matter otherwise resolved.
- A permit may be suspended or cancelled if it is not used in accordance with these terms and conditions of use.
- Failure to comply with these conditions may result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) being issued to your vehicle.
