Personal home care

Sometimes you may need people to come into your home and help you. This could be to help with your own personal care or with everyday household tasks.

Home carers can help with eating, drinking, washing, bathing, going to the toilet, dressing and prompting you to take your medication. They are also able to help with domestic tasks, such as preparing meals, shopping, laundry and helping you to get around.

Requesting home care from us

To request home care support from us contact Social Care Direct and they will assess your needs.

  • Email: socialcaredirect@barnet.gov.uk

  • Phone: 020 8359 5000

If you qualify for home care support we will offer you a short-term enablement package for up to 6 weeks.

A week before the end of your support package, your social worker will meet with you to discuss your progress and any further help you may need.

If you are assessed as needing support and assistance in the long term, you will be offered a personal budget to give you choice and control over who provides your help in the future.

You may have to pay towards the cost of the home care support. How much you contribute towards your personal budget will depend on your income and the amount of help you need.

Private home care

Home care, paid for by you, can be arranged privately. Our home care directory has details of local providers.

We recommend that you look on the Care Quality Commission for details about your chosen provider. The Care Quality Commission inspects services and publishes the results online.
