We are working to provide a consistent and reliable network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the borough to ensure that residents who want to own an electric vehicle are able to do so whether or not they have access to a private driveway.
Our ethos is to provide accessible charging to our residents. By accessible, we mean that the charger does not require a membership to access it. So, all you will need to do to use the charger is either download an app or use your credit or debit card if the unit allows it. Please see the user guide section to see exactly how the chargers across the borough operate.
How this will be rolled out
We have identified many locations across the borough and as a result of this we have started the roll out of 40 lamp column plug-in chargers for phase one, which will be installed in early spring 2019.
A further 40 lamp column plug-in chargers are planned for later in the year as part of phase two.
When completed this will ensure public access to up to 80 lamp column plug-in chargers. In addition to the lamp column chargers, a number of stand-alone units are located within various car parks across the borough and will soon also be available for public use. We will continue to grow the network based on usage and identification of need across the borough.
Please see our map below detailing the locations of all our installed chargers in the borough.

If you would also like to view chargers in the borough that have been installed by other companies, please visit https://www.zap-map.com/live/ to view chargers across London.
Across our network the cost of charging your EV will be 34p per kWh. This is a fair cost compared to the average cost of charging in the UK and considered good value for EV users. In addition to this, there are no additional fees when using a Barnet charger.
Lamp column user guide
Using our lamp column chargers, provided by CityEV, is quite straight forward. Please follow these instructions to start charging:
Step 1: Check the system is ready to use. The system is ready when the top light is steady green
Step 2: Plug your car in to the charge point, lift the cover of the socket and plug your cable in
Step 3: Authorise and pay for charging. To do this, open the Plugsurfing app or use the contactless card option. Neither option costs any extra to use. Once complete, charging begins. You can download the Plugsurfing app through either Android and Apple.
Step 4: When the charge is complete, the charge status light will turn green. If you wish to end the charge session early press the app stop button, if using Plugsurfing or contactless then remove the plug from the car first.
