Electric vehicles in Barnet
We need to reduce and mitigate the impact of transport emissions in Barnet. To encourage the use of electric vehicles, we provide electric charge points.
Electric vehicles do not produce exhaust emissions. Increased use of electric vehicles will improve air quality and is more sustainable. This will help us to meet the vision and objectives of our Long-Term Transport Strategy 2020-2041
Additionally, electric vehicles:
- are exempt from the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) and congestion charge.
- do not pay Vehicle Excise Duty
- may have reduced permit prices.
We are working to provide a network of electric vehicle charge points across the borough. This will help residents who do not have access to off-street parking to own and charge their vehicle.
All you will need to do to use a charge point is either download an app or use your credit or debit card if the unit allows it. Charge points across the borough may operate in different ways.
We use requests from residents to locate lamp column charge points. We also ensure an even spread of charge points across the borough, and throughout all wards.
We currently have 72 CityEV lamp column charge points and will be installing more in the future. Some stand-alone units are within car parks across the borough and at our leisure centres.
We will continue to add more, based on usage and identification of need across the borough.
Our first rapid charge point is coming soon. These allow an electric vehicle to be 80% charged within 30 minutes.

Charge point locations
You can find the locations of all charge points on the PlugSurfing website.
Across our network the cost of charging your electric vehicle is 34p per kWh. This is a fair cost in comparison to the average cost of charging in the UK and considered good value for users. Furthermore, there are no extra fees when using a Barnet charge point.
