As a Shared Lives carer, you are self-employed, so that you can get on with the job of living. Our friendly team can help you set up and our UK membership network, Shared Lives Plus, can support you with advice about the legal and tax arrangements – you’ll receive tax benefits and many discounts if you choose to become a Shared Lives Plus member.
We will give you support, guidance and training to help you with your new role and keep you up to date with best practice. You’ll have a dedicated scheme worker to talk through anything you’re not sure about and celebrate your successes.

What will happen:
Our friendly Shared Lives team will talk with your social worker
We’ll find a Shared Lives carer who has been through all our checks and training - and we think you might enjoy being with
You can meet each other for a walk or a cup of tea, then if you both like each other, you could go for dinner and spend longer together.
If you are looking for somewhere to live, you can visit overnight or for the weekend.
After that, we’ll talk to both of you to see if you want to start your arrangement, or we can find someone else who would suit you better.
You can start meeting up for the afternoon, a night a week, respite visits, short breaks – or move in!
We will come and visit you and your Shared Lives carer, and you can meet other people in your situation too.
