Action for Kids - School holiday play scheme

Age range: 14 - 18

A mixed activity scheme designed specifically for young people aged 14 – 18 with Learning disabilities. The focus is to develop skills people need to become more independent as well as provide an enjoyable experience and an opportunity to socialise with young people of their own age. Each day young people choose from a menu of activities. Choosing and making decisions is an important part of becoming independent. Several sessions run simultaneously so that they can be delivered in small groups which suits some young people better than in large groups. Activities include arts, crafts, cookery, trips out to bowling alleys etc. Action for Kids are based in Hornsey, N8 and provide transport.  Young people will be picked up and taken to the scheme and taken  home at the end of the session(s).

Barnet Mencap Take a Break

Age range: 0 - 18

The Barnet Mencap Take a Break service provides children and young people with support on a 1:1 basis to access community activities. It can also be used as an  'extra pair of hands' to provide support  for family outings and activities.   

Dates: Between 1 April 2019 - 31 March 2020 To be agreed with Barnet Mencap subject to availability.

Comfort Zone Holiday Scheme  - for Mapledown school students only

Age range: 11 - 18

A range of activities including cooking, arts and crafts, music and sports. The Comfort Zone holiday scheme is only available to children and young people attending Mapledown School. Please apply via the Short Breaks application form if you wish your child/young person to be considered for funding.Please note that Comfort Zone is not a service directly commissioned by Barnet. If you wish to use this service, please ensure that it meets the needs of your child/young person.

Community Focus - Easter Holiday - Nature Crafts

Age range: 10 - 18 

Exploring Friary park and the spring bloom, participants will gather ideas and materials to form sensory art work inspired by nature. Participants will try out different craft techniques, making things like flower mandalas, sun catchers, wind chimes and nature sculptures. The artwork will then be exhibited on the windows and the outdoor garden at Community Focus, forming a colourful spring display.

Community Focus - Good Vibrations Saturday Programme (during term time)

Age range: 10 - 18

This weekend club will run on Saturdays during term time from 11 am - 3 pm.  Activities will include live music, DJ'ing, digital music production, as well as the opportunity to explore different forms of visual art inspired by the music produced.

Community Focus - May Half Term - Dance and Art

Age range: 10 - 18

On this 5 day project, participants will get the chance to express themselves creatively through art and movement. They will explore storytelling and dance techniques, using the props and masks they make. at the end of the project, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their artwork and choreography to staff, friends and family.

Community Focus Art and About

Age range: 10 - 18

Day trips to cultural venues visiting a museum, watching a theatre production or attending an arts event.    6  trips over the year of 10 young people per trip.

Fair Play Barnet - Supported Swimming Sessions

Age range: 5 -19

Saturday morning swimming activity at Finchley Lido from 10 am to 12 noon. Children and young people are supported on a 1:1 basis to enjoy all of the facilities including wave machine, water jets and jacuzzi. The emphasis is on fun and building confidence in the water. Children and young people will be offered 5 sessions. Please note that these are not swimming lessons.

Fairplay Barnet - Enabling Service

Age range: 2 - 18

A service that matches a support worker with the child/young person to enable them to undertake activities of their choice. This can be an activity in the community, play or youth scheme, play activities in the home or  support to enable the family to go out for the day.

Noah's Ark Hospice

Age range: 0 - 18

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is a community-based hospice service providing support for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families. Noah’s Ark provides care and support for children and young people from birth who have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.

Norwood - Teeny Tiny Fun Play - Midweek day sessions - on site

Age range: 18 months - 5 years

Activities include arts, crafts, cookery, music, ball games, sensory room and garden play area, drama and art therapy sessions. For children with complex health care needs that preclude them from mainstream activities.

Dates: 2 sessions per week (7 spaces per session) during term time only.

Norwood - Weekend Club (Unity)

Age range: 5 - 11 and 12 - 18

Young people meet on Sundays and take part in fun activities such as arts, crafts, cookery, music, dance and drama.  The club runs for two hours. There is currently a waiting list for this club but if you wish to be considered and placed on the waiting list please complete the online Short Breaks Application Form. The scheme runs at The Kennedy Leigh Centre, Hendon, NW4. Please note that this scheme is open to all faiths, but that The Kennedy Leigh Centre is a Kosher building and as such only Kosher food is permitted on these premises.

Norwood Unity School holiday play scheme

Age range: 5 - 11 and 12 - 18

Unity is a holiday club for children and young people with learning disabilities and in addition those who have physical difficulties which require 1:1 support and medical care. The scheme provides opportunities for participants to learn new skills and take part in fun activities such as arts, crafts, cookery, music, dance and drama. There are also opportunities to participate in specialist workshops and outings in the Community. The scheme runs at The Kennedy Leigh Centre, Hendon, NW4. Please note that this scheme is open to all faiths, but that The Kennedy Leigh Centre is a Kosher building and as such only Kosher food is permitted on these premises.

Age range: 3 - 11

A range of activities including cooking, arts and crafts, music and sports. The Oops play scheme is only available to children attending Oakleigh School or the Acorn Assessment Centre . Age range: 8 - 18

Autism specific scheme with groups split by age and ability. Opportunities for both in house and outing based fun with autism trained staff.  One to one support always available. Activities include arts and crafts, music and dance, yoga and relaxation, sport and high energy action, swimming, museum, theatre and park trips.

Dates: Easter 2019, May half term 2019, Summer 2019, October half term 2019, Christmas holiday 2019, February half term 2020

Age range: 8 - 18

Autism specific scheme with groups split by age and ability. Opportunities for both in house and outing based fun with autism trained staff. One to one support always available. Activities include arts and crafts, music and dance, yoga and relaxation, and sport. Please note that all funded places at these clubs  are currently full. If you wish to apply to go on a waiting list for a funded place, please complete the Short Breaks on-line application form. Alternatively you can contact Resources for Autism and self fund a place.
