This service is managed by the council’s Public Health Team and is delivered on our behalf by WDP (Westminster Drug Project). It is a full treatment service for both adults and young people.
We offer this service because the Health & Social Care Act 2012 section 12 places a duty on local authorities to take such steps as it considers appropriate for improving the health of the people in its area by
(a) providing information and advice
(b) providing services or facilities designed to promote healthy living (whether by helping individuals to address behaviour that is detrimental to health or in any other way)
Our work meets this requirement by providing Substance Misuse Treatment Services for the residents of Barnet.
The Act also allows us to use personal information for research purposes and this covers the collection and analysis of Substance Misuse Service data by the council. Sometimes specific research projects are run to look at a particular issue. Where this type of research is taking place, we will usually discuss your involvement with you in advance and get your agreement.
The Children Act 1989 section 17 places a duty on Local Authorities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children within their area who are in need by providing a range and level of services appropriate to those children’s needs.
The service will work with other people like mental health teams, GPs and social workers as part of your treatment.
The service also shares information with the NDTMS (National Drug and alcohol Treatment Monitoring System) where you have given us permission to do so. More information can be found on the government website:
