Emergency centres

We can make an Emergency Centre available to those evacuated due to an emergency.

Barnet Council volunteers run our emergency centres. They provide a communal space where those evacuated can:

  • temporarily gather
  • get refreshments
  • get attention for any specific needs
  • receive regular information updates from the scene

We decide where the Emergency Centre will be at the time of the incident. They are usually opened in a school, community centre or similar public building.

If you get taken to an Emergency Centre during an emergency you do not have to stay there. You may prefer to contact a family member or friend to stay with. But please notify a member of staff that you are leaving.

We make every effort to accommodate pets but some of the buildings do not allow animals inside. In this event, please make arrangements with a family member or friend to look after your pet for you.
