A survey featured in Wednesday’s Evening Standard has rated Barnet as the second friendliest borough in London.

Property buyers, Vivo, asked residents to rate their local area based on a number of factors, such as time spent socialising with their neighbours, the availability of community activities and how welcome they felt there.

Barnet scored highly in the survey coming 2nd overall based on the categories.  The highest score was for giving back to the community: 90 per cent of people asked said they make an effort to buy locally and support independent businesses.

Another area Barnet scored well in was the number of residents who had taken part in a community activity in the past 12 months, with over 70 per cent saying they had done so.

The Leader of Barnet Council, Councillor Richard Cornelius said:

“It’s great news that Barnet has been named the second friendliest borough in London and we really want to keep it that way.

“We try and ensure that all the work we do improves the lives of our residents and keeps them safe and happy in the borough.

“We hope that in the upcoming years, we see even more people supporting their local businesses and attending community run events”
