Apply for the Barnet Local Welfare Assistance Fund

Barnet Local Welfare Assistance Fund can help people who have a low income and need help to meet their immediate needs or pay for essential items and to support or maintain residents in the community following a stay in hospital or on release from prison.
The main eligibility conditions include:
- The applicant must be aged 16 or over AND
- The applicant must have been resident in Barnet for at least 6 weeks or have a connection with Barnet AND
- The applicant must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit, or have recently come off a qualifying benefit due to starting work, but has yet to be paid
However they will not be eligible if the following conditions apply:
- Applicant is subject to immigration control and has no recourse to public fund
- Applicant can obtain a budgeting loan from the Department for Works and Pensions
- Applicant Is claiming for an item which is covered by insurance
- Applicant has received a previous payment from the fund as follows:
- A basic living needs award within the last 6 months
- A furnishings award within the last 12 months
- An electrical/gas goods award within the last 36 months
