Creative Communities, events and activities in Colindale

Creative Communities is a Barnet Council initiative, led by the Library Service to deliver a programme of free events, activities, and experiences specifically for the residents of Colindale. A wide range of exciting events are being planned and delivered for children, teens and adults.

Mental wellbeing art workshop

CC Wellbeing Art

Saturday 10 September, 11am to 12.30pm

Due to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II this event has been postponed. The new date will be Saturday 24 September, 11am to 12:30pm.

Mental wellbeing is so important to our everyday lives and art has proven to be an effective media in helping us achieve and maintain a healthier state of mental wellness.

Join Esperanza Walsh, a local artist, in a relaxing wellness journey through art. The workshop is open to all adults and will have three short activities involving drawing and painting aimed at harnessing the power of art to create a relaxing and refreshing experience. Materials for the workshop will be provided.

Silver Sunday at Colindale library

Sunday 2 October, 2pm to 5pm

Join Barnet Seniors Association for an afternoon of tea, cake, activities and entertainment for seniors in Barnet.

Silver Sunday is a celebration of older people and a chance for new people to meet, participate in new activities and engage with different age groups.

The day will include Bollywood dancing, talks, stalls providing relevant information and a short exercise class led by Age UK.

Tai Chi for over 55s

Tai Chi

Join Barnet Age UK’s low impact class based on balance and strength. The instructor will lead you in some gentle exercise benefiting physical and mental health

Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Diwali Crafts and Play

Wednesday 19 October 10.30am - 11.30am


Diwali themed play and craft activities for under-fives.

A celebration of African culture for Black History Month

Saturday 22 October, 12pm to 5pm

Join The African Cultural Association in the library for a jam-packed day of activities for all ages celebrating traditional African culture.

From 12pm to 2pm

  • Exhibition of artefacts, books, and arts and crafts by African authors, artists, and other well-known people
  • Learn how to braid and weave African natural hair
  • Learn how to tie a traditional African head wrap. For example, 'Gele'

From 2pm to 4pm

  • African drumming, music, and dancing
  • Learn African drumming and dance moves

From 4pm to 5pm

  • Fashion show of African traditional clothing being worn by models

Cello performance and masterclass with Oliver Gledhill

Tuesday 29 November 2022, 6pm to 7.30pm

Oliver performs Bach Suite No.6 in D, BWV 1012, a pinnacle of the cello repertoire, followed by a Masterclass which explores how to create the meanings, gestures and emotions of everyday life through the recreation of composers’ imaginative ideas.

Age guidance: 8+.

Introduction to mindfulness

Friday 2 December 2022, 10:30am to 2pm

An interactive workshop for adults who want to learn about mindfulness and how to improve their emotional well-being. The workshop covers using mindfulness in everyday life, to help deal with negative experiences and includes guided mindfulness meditations.

This workshop requires participation & working in small groups and is not suitable for those with complex mental health issues.

Nicola Borthwick has worked in the Further Education sector as a qualified adult community tutor for over 25 years and has worked with various organisations in Barnet and Enfield offering mental health and mindfulness workshops. In addition, she has her own counselling private practice where she also uses mindfulness with her clients.

The next STEM Club sessions are on Tuesday 20 September and Tuesday 27 September. STEM Club will then be taking a break until after the October half term.
