Health and safety at work
If you run a business or are the owner of a business you have a responsibility to ensure the health and safety of all your employees, customers and visitors.
You must also look after the welfare of your employees while they are at work and health and safety risks must be properly managed.
Information about health and safety in the workplace can be found on the Health and Safety Executive website or contact our health and safety team.
Report a health and safety incident or concern at a business or your place of work
Use our health and safety report form for reporting incidents or concerns such as:
- unsafe working conditions
- poor staff welfare
- excessive working hours
- dangerous work practice
- asbestos exposure
- unlicensed special treatments
Workplace health and safety inspections
Our Health and Safety team carries out workplace inspections and can investigate reported accidents and complaints about health and safety. We can also give advice on health and safety to employers, employees and the public.
Our officers have the right to enter workplaces at all reasonable times and do not have to give notice.
They always carry identification to show they are authorised to do this work.
What happens after an inspection
Following an inspection we will issue a written report to the duty holder and may serve enforcement notices or prosecute if necessary.
