Late Applications
The closing date for applications has now passed but you can still submit a late application.
Late applications will be considered only after school places have first been allocated to applicants who applied on time. Late applicants will not receive an offer on 1 March 2025.
If you were unable to apply on time due to an exceptional reason and would like to request that your application is given 'on time' consideration, you should complete and submit the Reason for Late Application Form before 12 December 2024. If approved, your application will be processed along with the other applications received on time.
How to apply
Before you make your application, you should:
-
read our Secondary Admissions Guide (PDF, 4.8MB), to find out about Barnet schools and the admissions process;
-
find secondary schools in Barnet from the schools directory;
-
visit school websites for more information;
- refer to our Guidance Notes (PDF, 291KB), to help you make your application;
- have a valid email address to make your application;

Your address
You must use your child's main address at the time of application.
Do not use the address of a relative or someone who provides temporary care for your child, a business address or a childminder's address.
A temporary address will normally not be accepted if you still own a property that was previously used as a home address.
Providing false information to secure a school place is a criminal act. Please check our secondary admissions guide (PDF 4.8MB) for more information about how we determine your home address.
School preferences
When selecting your school preferences, please remember to:
-
select up to six schools - you can include schools within and outside the borough of Barnet;
-
list the schools in the order you prefer them;
-
check the admissions criteria for each school in the secondary admissions guide;
-
check how places were offered last year (PDF, 163KB), to weigh up you chances of an offer from your preferred school;
-
you may change your school preferences as many times as you wish, up until 31 October 2024, but you must remember to re-submit your application each time.
Supporting information
As part of your in-year application you will need to provide specific information. Please upload the evidence to the eAdmissions online portal when you make your application.
Child's date of birth
Please provide a copy of your child's short birth certificate or a copy of their passport photo page.
Proof of address
Put your council tax number on the application form and upload a copy of one of the following:
- a copy of a gas or electricity bill dated within 3 months of 31 October 2024;
- your most recent Rent/Mortgage statement or Tenancy Agreement;
- a recent letter / statement from the Department for Work and Pensions;
- a recent letter / statement from HM Revenues and Customs.
If you don’t have a council tax number you must upload two documents from the proof of address list.
Faith, foundation and academy school applications
Faith schools, as well as some foundation schools and academies, will ask you to complete a supplementary information form (SIF) or Certificate of Religious Practice (CRP).
These can be downloaded from school websites and should be returned to the school you are applying to.
Exceptional social or medical claims
Most Barnet secondary schools do not give priority on exceptional medical or social grounds. If you select a school that gives you the option to claim exceptional medical or social priority and you wish to be considered under one of these criteria, you will need to demonstrate a specific connection between your child's needs and the school. You will be asked to provide a written statement from a doctor, social worker or other independent qualified professional.
Children looked after and previously looked after
You will have to provide evidence of the child's looked after status. This is normally a letter from the social worker.
For previously looked after children, you must provide one of the documents listed below, as well as a document or letter confirming your child was previously in care:
- child arrangements order;
- special guardianship order;
- proof of adoption.
Please make sure you submit all relevant supporting information for a priority claim by 31 October 2024. Any evidence submitted after this date will not be considered until after 3 March 2025, Secondary National Offer Day.
