Cllr Tony Vourou is the Deputy Mayor and his wife Caroline Vourou, the Deputy Mayoress.

Tony Vourou was born in Tottenham, in North London, to first generation Cypriot parents. He attended infant and junior schools in Tottenham and then a secondary school in Wood Green. After A-levels he attended North London Polytechnic where he obtained an HND in Business studies.

He moved to Barnet in January 1973 and has lived in Barnet since then.

His first career was in the garment manufacturing industry based in North London. In 1999 his career path changed, and he became an event co-ordinator in the hospitality industry.

Alongside his working life, Tony has been a school governor for the past 27 years in two of Barnet’s Junior schools. He is involved in a number of local associations, including Cypriot diaspora associations based in London.

He is also a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Barnet.

He is married to Caroline, and they have two children and in his spare time enjoys travelling, reading and being involved in community events.

He was elected as a local councillor on the 5th May 2022 and has been serving on the Children’s and Education committee as well as on one of the Planning committees.

He is very proud to be selected as the Deputy Mayor of Barnet and is keen to visit and meet the residents and groups across the borough.
