Knife Detection in Schools
Received: 14 November 2019
To whom it may concern:
I would like to request some information under the Freedom of Information Act.
Please could you tell me:
Have schools under your council's control implemented or introduced any of the following in order to detect knives/weapons -
:: Knife detection wands (also known as a handheld metal detector or body scanner)
:: Knife arches (also known as a body scanner, or walkthrough or archway metal detector)
:: Stop and search policy.
In cases where the answer is yes, please state how many schools have implemented or introduced these, whether they are primary or secondary schools, and when they were brought in.
Please use the table below as a guide:
Number of primaries Number of secondaries Date introduced
Knife/handheld detection wands
Stop and search policy
Finally, do schools under your council's control have a dedicated police officer. Again, please give details, for example proportion and number of schools that have a dedicated police officer.
