FOI request: Design Skills and Resources in Local Authorities

Place Alliance, Urban Design Group and Design Council are gathering information on urban design skills / resources within local planning authorities nationally, and how they have changed since our last survey in 2017. At a time when Government is prioritising the delivery of high-quality design through the planning system, this survey will help us to understand if local planning authorities are in a position to deliver on those aspirations.

This request is being made under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to gather a reliable and consistent source of data from across the country. I very much look forward to your response within 20 working days, as stipulated by the Act.

Please provide the information by filling in the online survey you can find here:

It should take no more than ten minutes to complete by someone in possession of the necessary data.

For your convenience I have attached a PDF of with all the questions.

If it is not possible to provide the information requested due to the information exceeding the cost of compliance limits identified in Section 12, please provide advice and assistance, under the Section 16 obligations of the Act, as to how I can refine my request.

As a thank you we will provide all participating authorities with the results of the survey which will be published and used to influence government policy making. If you would like to receive a copy, then please include a contact e-mail when requested to do so.

If you have any queries please don't hesitate to contact me via email and I will be happy to clarify what I am asking for, my details are outlined below.
