Children and young people's library services

The Council has asked an external evaluator, Activist Group, to conduct an independent evaluation of recent changes to the library service and to make some recommendations for the future. If you are aged between 10 and 17 and would like to take part, there's a quick questionnaire for young people which takes just 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

We welcome children from birth onward. Even babies can join! You will find lots of things in the library and online to encourage children to read, learn and enjoy; including books for beginner readers, help with homework, and regular events and activities.

    Join the library

To join the library you will just need to complete a short form (signed by your parent/carer if you are under 16 years old) and show us one form of official identification which validates your name.

There are special loan entitlements for foster carers, childminders and nursery/preschool leaders.  Find out how you can obtain a special library card to borrow books, DVDs and other items for the children in your care.

    Online library services

Access your library from home with our online services. You can choose from a wide range of children's fiction and non-fiction in ebook and audiobook format and encyclopaedias to help with homework and study.
