Barnet Council has launched a new campaign to recognise the valuable contributions that residents make to their communities and help highlight opportunities for people to get involved in the local community.
To launch the Barnet Together campaign, Councillor Richard Cornelius, Leader of Barnet Council, joined the Good Neighbours’ Scheme in Burnt Oak.
The Barnet Together campaign highlights the fantastic voluntary work that residents are doing to help make Barnet a great place – from recycling their household rubbish to cooking meals for neighbours who need a bit of help – and showcases other new and exciting opportunities for everyone to get involved no matter how much time they have.
Councillor Richard Cornelius, Council Leader, said: “Our Barnet Together campaign is our way of saying thanks for the work our residents do in their communities and also outlines in simple and practical ways that everyone can get involved.
“Barnet is a community-minded borough with thousands of residents taking part in local activities that contribute to making Barnet a great place to live.
“Our latest campaign will give greater support to those residents and groups who want to be more involved.”
To support the campaign, a fun, online quiz has been launched which asks residents six questions before presenting opportunities to get involved in their communities, based on the information given. Residents can take part in the quiz by visiting www.barnettogether.co.uk.
On completing the quiz, residents will be presented with one of five profiles:
- You do your bit – for those that don’t have much time to spare but want to play their part in helping the community work
- You are a good neighbour – for those who are happy to help their neighbours when they need it
- You love where you live – for those who are interested in local issues and would be willing to lend a hand
- You get stuck in – for those who have a little more time, and want to get involved on a more regular basis
- You lead the way – for those who are local leaders who go the extra mile for their community
The Barnet Together campaign, launched in Communities Week 2017, aims to showcase that there are opportunities for everyone to do their bit in Barnet, no matter how big or small the contribution.
The council will always provide the borough’s most valued services, but with increasingly fewer resources, it will support residents, businesses and community groups to do more and get involved across the borough.
