Being active is easy, fun and social. It can lift your mood, keep your heart healthy and reduce your risk of serious illnesses. It is also a great way to spend time with family, meet friends and get involved in the local community.

The Fit and Active Barnet (FAB) campaign showcases real Barnet residents and highlights the positive impact that being active can have on your physical and mental health, as well as your overall wellbeing.

As part of the campaign, Barnet Council has worked in partnership with Better, who operate the borough’s five leisure facilities, to develop a FAB Hub (www.better.org.uk/fab-hub); a one-stop-shop where residents have access to: health and wellbeing tips, guidance, case studies and an activity finder that helps residents find an activity that suits them and their busy lifestyles.

Through the Hub, residents can also sign up for their free FAB Card, which provides a range of benefits and opportunities – including 50 per cent off leisure based activities and free swimming for under 8s (Mon – Fri). The Card will also provide discounted offers on a range of activities, including Health Walks delivered by the Council and more.

Councillor Sachin Rajput, Chairman of the Adults and Safeguarding Committee and Lead Member for Sport & Physical activity, said: “We all know the health benefits of keeping physically active, but through this campaign we highlight the positive impact keeping active has on your overall wellbeing. I’d heartily encourage everyone to visit the FAB Hub, sign up for the free FAB Card and to find an activity that suits them and their busy lifestyles - there is so much on offer.”

The campaign will be seen around the borough from Tuesday 17 July and will consist of: high street posters, bus shelter posters, digital advertisements, social media posts, coverage in the Barnet First residents’ magazine and more.

The FAB team will be at Brent Cross Shopping Centre on Wednesday 18 July and our partners, Better, will be hosting an Open Day on Saturday 21 July at all Better Leisure Centres from 1 – 4pm – residents are invited to join us and find out more about the campaign, can sign up for their free FAB Card and find out about the fun activities on offer across Barnet
