Barnet’s Healthy Heart Project praised for helping 1,600+ residents from high-risk communities

A Barnet Council-backed project to improve heart health in high-risk communities has received formal recognition for helping over 1,600 residents in a little under two years. The African Caribbean Culture Society of Barnet presented Barnet’s Healthy Heart Project with a certificate of appreciation for its service to the community. Since May 2022, 1,683 residents from African, Caribbean, or South Asian backgrounds have been helped to better manage their cardiovascular health.

Young people across Barnet elect representatives to champion their views

Four Barnet school pupils have been chosen by young people across the borough to represent their views at the national and local levels. Thousands of youngsters voted to elect their Members of Youth Parliament and Youth Ambassadors for the 2024 - 2026 term. Edgware business given hefty fine over £5,000 for selling vapes again to two 14-year-olds

An Edgware business has been fined over £5,000 for selling vapes to children for the second time. Fone Us Edgware Ltd was handed the fine by Willesden Magistrates Court on 21 March, 2024, after being caught selling vapes to two 14-year-olds by Barnet Council’s Trading Standards team.

Volunteers honoured for outstanding service at 24th Barnet Civic Awards

Volunteers have been honoured for their outstanding service to the local community at the 24th annual Barnet Civic Awards. The ceremony, which took place at Hendon Town Hall last night (March 20), recognised individuals and organisations for their contributions to fundraising, healthcare support, tackling poverty and other forms of service to improve the quality of life in their local community.

Chief Executive John Hooton to leave Barnet Council; Deputy Chief Executive Cath Shaw to take on role*

John Hooton has announced his departure after eight years as Chief Executive of Barnet Council and will leave towards the end of June. Subject to the council’s governance processes, Deputy Chief Executive Cath Shaw will become Acting Chief Executive on John’s departure, pending permanent recruitment to the post.
